Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Virginia Gallup Wiley, 83, of Monterey were held at Monterey First Baptist Church on Thursday, May 14, 2009, 10 a.m. with Bro. Clyde Grammon and Bro. Gene Lee officiating.

Burial followed at Wiley Cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Mrs. Wiley was born February 20, 1926, and passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

She was a resident of Monterey, a homemaker and a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Wiley; father, Commodore Dewey Gallup; mother, Flora Montpelier Gallup; grandson, Darian Bird; and brother, Alvin Eugene Gallup.

Survivors include a son, Hank Wiley and wife, Norma, of Monterey; daughters — Juanita and Girault Bird of Sicily Island, Amy and Tom Henslee of Monterey, and Nell and Phillip Blount of Monterey; brothers — Jack Gallup of Wisner and Dewey Gallup of Haughton; sisters — Ruth Wilson of Lismore and Nila Mount of Lismore. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Brent Henslee, John Bird, Vance Cross, Rusty Wiley, Lonnie Geoghegan and Terry Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy Henslee, Joshua White and Hunter Wiley.
