A 15-year-old LaSalle Parish girl was killed and seven injured Friday in an 10:30 p.m. boating accident involving two vessels on Horseshoe Lake.

Lt. Russ Kiser with the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Region 4 in Ferriday said 11 people were involved -- six in one boat and five in the other. The number included six adults and five juveniles.

Killed in the mishap was Cassie Finlay.

"Everybody involved was from the Jena area of LaSalle Parish," said Kiser. "They were running trotlines and they had their navigation lights on. The accident is still under investigation."

The adults injured were identified as Richard Finlay, Melissa Finlay, Denise Finlay, John Edwards, Chris Thomas and Regina Thomas. The juveniles were not named.

Kiser said seven of the injured were treated at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, while one was transported to St. Francis Cabrini in Alexandria.

Concordia Parish Deputy Stephen Karabelen was the first to arrive at the scene and performed CPR on the teen, who later died as a result of her injuries.

When Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries arrived, the case was turned over to their authority. Also responding to the accident along with the Sheriff's Office and Wildlife & Fisheries were Metro and AMR ambulance services.
