Alexander says prepare for digital TV transition U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, encourages area residents to act now to prepare for the Digital TV (DTV) Transition on June 12. The Monroe–El Dorado region ranks among the least prepared for the national switch to Digital television.
President Obama signed the DTV Delay Act in February, which postponed the date television stations have to end their analog broadcasts and transition to digital signals to June 12. The delay has given more Americans the opportunity to get ready for Digital TV, but some are still unprepared.
So how do television viewers know if they are in danger of losing their signal?
If television viewers have cable, satellite or pay TV service, they are ready for the transition. However, if they currently use "rabbit ears" or a rooftop antenna with a television that uses an analog tuner, they are not ready, and will lose television service on June 12 if steps are not taken soon.
There are three ways people can prepare for the transition: (1) subscribe to cable or satellite TV service; (2) purchase a television with a digital tuner; or (3) buy a converter box which plugs into analog TV sets and will convert the signal to digital.
Coupons are available to help with the purchase of the converter box for eligible households.
For more information about the transition, apply for coupons or find a retailer, please visit www.DTV2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009. |
