Memorial Day activities slated The annual Miss-Lou Memorial Day Parade from Vidalia to the Natchez City Cemetery will highlight Memorial Day weekend on Monday.
The march will begin around 8 a.m. at Zion Church on Magnolia Street in Vidalia. The parade has been held annually for more than 80 years to honor veterans and active soldiers in all U.S. Armed Forces.
Four Rivers For All Veterans will hold its annual Memorial Program at Block High School Auditorium on Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m.
Guest speaker for the program will be LTC Michael Deville. Rev. Leon Zordan, Jr. will emcee the Memorial Program and Dr. Dave Mayes will offer a Memorial Prayer.
David Jordan and family from Harrisonburg will sing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs and the playing of Taps. A slide show of area veterans will be shown and will also contain pictures of local POWs and a listing of all of the casualties from Catahoula Parish during World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Global War on Terrorism.
LTC Michael Deville is currently assigned and works full-time as the J4 - Logistics Officer, Joint Force Headquarters, Louisiana National Guard. He began his military career by enlisting in the Louisiana National Guard in November 1985. He is the recipient of the meritorious service medal with 5 oak leaf clusters and various other awards for achievement and service including the Louisiana War Cross.
Charles Watson, Commander of Four Rivers for All Veterans, invites the public to attend. Refreshments will be served following the program by Jonesville Woman's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Parish government agencies and banks will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.
Ferriday Town Hall, Ridgecrest Town Hall, Clayton Town Hall and Vidalia City Hall will be closed Monday, as well as the Concordia Parish courthouse offices.
All Concordia Library branches will be closed Saturday, May 23, and Monday, |
