Ferriday seeks emergency funding for water plant Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said work continues to secure emergency funding to upgrade Ferriday's water plant while a boil water advisory remains in effect.
"We are working hard to get emergency money to get this plant back in order and the town off the boil-water order," said McGlothin.
He said he asked the legislators to find $800,000 to $1 million to do the necessary work.
Twelve 500-gallon water tanks have been placed around town and are being refilled regularly with drinking water by the National Guard.
Concordia Homeland Security Director Morris White said each tank holds 500 gallons of water. Each is dumped every 24 hours and refilled with fresh water, White said, which is inspected by health department officials before consumption is allowed.
The boil water notice went into effect on May 11 due to problems with the roof at the water plant, which was initially damaged in 2006.
Water at the plant has tested clear of any dangerous bacteria, but the precautionary boil-water notice is mandatory
The town had already entered into an agreement with Triton Company to overhaul the water system before the collapse, but McGlothin said that work has been delayed because the company has experienced problems getting front-end funding for the $2.3 million project. |
