Students improve on LEAP scores Concordia Parish student test scores showed improvement across the parish this week, according to state testing results released on Monday.
There was substantial improvement in 8th grade LEAP scores as the percentage of students meeting the promotional standard (Approaching Basic/Basic) increased from 60% in 2008 to 71% this year.
"We are very pleased that our passage rate for 8th graders is now above the state average," said Supt. Loretta Blankenstein. She expressed her appreciation for the hard work of teachers, students, parents and principals for making this possible.
The 4th grade LEAP results in math and English were fairly constant as the district's percentage of students making the promotional standard (Approaching Basic/Basic combination) still trails the state average.
"We are very pleased with the ILEAP scores in math throughout the parish as the percentage of students scoring above Basic increased at every grade level Grades 3-9, except for Grade 5, and the number of students scoring Unsatisfactory in math decreased in every grade, but Grade 6," said Blankenstein. "These math scores reflect the hard work of our teachers, students, and supervisory staff who have been involved in the creation of assessment tests throughout the year to focus instruction in the various areas of mathematics. We will continue to work on ways to improve our instruction in mathematics and hope to continue to see improvement for years to come."
The ILEAP test scores for the English-Language Arts were a bit mixed with the most notably improvement in the number of students scoring above Basic in Grades 3 and 7. There was also a substantial improvement in Grade 9, as the percentage of students scoring Unsatisfactory was cut from 10% to 4%. Blankenstein said "she very happy to see this improvement, but noted that there was still work to be done."
Although pleased with results overall, she said, "The district showed improvement and the results showed that we are on the right track with many of our programs," adding that she "was very appreciative of the support from parents and the community as a whole and without it the school system could not continue to show improvement." |
