Brett Hinson of Vidalia was named Third Team All-American by D3baseball.com and was named to the ABCA-Rawlings First Team All-West Region as well as claiming West Region Pitcher of the Year.

The Choctaws fnished 30-16, winning the American Southwest Conference East Division Championship.

Hinson, a former standout at Mississippi Delta Community College, enjoyed a record-setting season. He posted a 10-2 record with an earned run average of 3.63.

Hinson struck out 105 batters in 91 innings of work. Hinson's 10 wins were the second most in MC history and the most in the country through the conference tournaments.

His 105 strikeouts were a new school record and the third most in the nation through the conference tournaments.

Hinson allowed one run in 14 innings over three days as the Choctaws came up one game short of the American Southwest Conference Championship.

Hinson got the start in MC's opening game of the tournament as the Choctaws sailed to a 10-0 win over Texas-Dallas.

Hinson struck out 10 batters over seven innings to pick up the win for the Choctaws.

Hinson was just as stellar as the offense, shutting down the most powerful lineup in the nation. The Vidalia High graduate only allowed three hits to the top home run hitting team in the nation.

Hinson asked for the ball in the Choctaws championship game against the University of Texas at Tyler in a contest that started at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

UT-Tyler beat MC 16-2 in the opening game Sunday to set up the winner-take-all game. Hinson allowed just one run in seven innings for MC pitching on one day rest from a 3-hit shutout Friday.
