Warrants issued for man who shot at police officer

Warrants have been issued for a Ferriday man who fired at a Ferriday police officer Tuesday night.

According to Ferriday Assistant Police Chief Johnny Evans, Ferriday officers responded to a call of a man flashing a gun around on Eighth Street between Georgia and Carolina streets at around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

"Officers stopped the guy and approached him," Evans said. "He broke running away and Officer Alfonso Warfield gave pursuit. As the suspect was running away he pulled a gun and shot at the officer several times."

Evans said Warfield was not hit by any gunfire.

Evans said the suspect, identified as Michael Haley, 20, of Ferriday, is still being sought.

"There is a warrant out for all agencies for Haley for attempted first degree murder, resisting an officer by flight and illegal use of a weapon," Evans said. "He has a weapon and if he will shoot a police officer, he will shoot anybody."

Evans said there are no prior arrests on Haley from the Ferriday Police Department.

"But his name has surfaced several times," Evans said. "We need to get him picked up."
