|Bostic named MHS principal|
The Concordia Parish School Board during its regular meeting Thursday night unanimously named John Bostic as principal at Monterey High School.
He replaces Neeva Sibley, who previously retired.
Bostic, 53, has served as assistant principal at the school for the past 10 years. Now in his 32nd year in education, 29 of which have been at Monterey, he said he's looking forward to being principal.
"It's something I'm excited about," he said.
In other action during the meeting, the board approved the payment of invoices for the month of April totaling $3,942,583, tabled action on a contract for a school resource officer and took under advisement bids for mowing services.
The board also revised its consolidated budget after hearing an update from Business Manager Tom O'Neal on the board's present financial status, which remains strong. The board also authorized O'Neal to continue efforts for re-roofing projects at Ferriday Upper and Vidalia High.
O'Neal said it remains unclear just how much money the system will receive in federal stimulus money.
"I just don't know," he said. "We've been told so many different things."
The board also approved a resolution by Fred Butcher opposing House Bill 230 Retirement/State Systems.
The bill aims to consolidate four state boards into the Consolidated State Retirement Board. The four state retirement systems include the La. State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS), the Teachers' Retirement System of La. (TRSL), the La. School Employees' Retirement System (LSERS), and the State Police Pension and Retirement System (STPOL).
Butcher said the consolidation would not benefit educators or school employees.
