Story Archives: Lewis signs with Wiley

Lewis signs with Wiley
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High head boys basketball coach Glen Henderson calls DeMarco Lewis a "late bloomer."

That's exactly what Wiley College is counting after the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Trojan post player signed with the Marshall, Texas school on Monday.

"DeMarco has a lot of potential," Henderson said. "When they get him on their weight program he will fill out a lot more and become stronger. He went and worked out over there and the coach really liked his aggressiveness. I think he fits in well with their program and it will be good for them."

Lewis is the first signee for Henderson, who took over as head coach this season after serving as an assistant coach two previous years.

"I'm excited about being able to continue playing and will just keep working hard," Lewis said. "I need to work on becoming stronger and getting a better knowledge of the game. My rebounding is my strong suit, so I have to get better in other areas."

Lewis was a big reason the Trojans played for the Class 2A state championship in 2008, losing to St. Thomas Aquinas in the finals.

"That was big, I never thought we would make it to a state championship game," he said. "I think that experience will help me at Wiley. Hopefully I can play well enough to go on to the next level."
