Recovery projects selected locally

Vidalia and the Concordia Parish Police Jury have each selected projects which will be funded through the Louisiana Recovery Act, which provides monies to local governments to repair damage from hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

The parish has received $470,000 total.

Jury President Melvin Ferrington said the Police Jury will use about $200,000 to repair the old courthouse roof and to seal bricks and mortar to the building.

"During Gustav, the old courthouse sort of shifted a little bit, and the bricks and window seals were loosened," said Ferrington.

Vidalia plans to use $100,000 for drainage improvements.

Ferrington said Ferriday is also entitled to some of the funds.

"We had all agreed to provide all of the money to Ferriday to help with its water situation, but we were told the funds could not be used for that," Ferrington said.
