Funeral services for Mr. A. Girault Bird, 66, of Sicily Island were held at First Methodist Church on Sunday, June 14, 2009, 2 p.m. with Bro. Andy Hitchcock and Bro. James Gass officiating.

Interment followed at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Bird was born March 6, 1943, in Sicily Island and passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was a lifelong resident of Sicily Island, owner of Island Pharmacy and Vital Care, and a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island. He was president of Leland Water Association, a member of the Louisiana Independent Pharmacy Association, a farmer and breeder of thoroughbred horses.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darian Bird; father, Audley Vern Bird; mother, Virginia Furr Bird; and sisters, Virginia "Sunny" Grayson and Deta Algood.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Bird of Sicily Island; son, John Bird and wife, Shannon, of Sicily Island; grandchildren, Evan and Hunter Bird of Sicily Island; sister, Laverne Harris of Bossier City; aunt, Sally Furr of Vidalia; nieces, Paige Arnold, Mary Ellen Hopkins and Judy Wallace; several grand and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Ben Bird, Barry Jenkins, Willard Kassel, Kaline Patten, Bill Colvin, Scott Emfinger, and Jerry Hinton.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Miller, Carl Book, Donald Ashley, John Gallup, Marcus Garza, LeDell Tolliver, Jimmy Farmer, Joe Bondurant, Roy Evans and Thomas Sam.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 509 Newman St., Sicily Island, LA 71368.
