Ferriday awarded $755,700 grant for sewer plant

Ferriday has been awarded a $755,700 state grant for upgrades to its sewer plant, Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said today (Wednesday).

His comments followed an announcement this week by Gov. Bobby Jindal that Ferriday was one of a number of towns slated to receive funding from the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Program.

Jindal said the grant for Ferriday will be used for improvements to the pond section of the sewer treatment facility in an effort to meet the limitations of the facility's discharge permit.

"The building is fine, but we have to rebuild the plant," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. "The water worries me, but the plant worries me, too. Until we reach a certain ammonia level and pH level, we cannot dump into Bayou Cocodrie. We have been out of compliance."
