Vidalia basketball shines in Natchitoches Vidalia High's boys basketball team went 3-2 at the Natchitoches Central Camp this past weekend, despite playing without three regular players.
The Vikings finished 18-3 over four camps, going 3-0 in Jena, 6-1 at the Mississippi State Basketball Camp, 3-0 in Pineville and 3-2 this past weekend.
"We had a good summer and had some new guys step up who will give us some needed depth," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders.
The Vikings, who finished as Class 3A State runners-up last year, lost to Bossier 70-47 in their first game in Natchitoches, but bounced back with wins over West Monroe (49-47 in overtime), Natchitoches Central (41-38) and Many (60-50).
Vidalia fell to Ruston, 45-41 in its final game.
"That was a real physical game," Sanders said. "But I was proud of the way the guys bounced back after losing the first one."
Sanders was without Quartrell Thomas, Dee Fleming and Quan Riley.
"But our new guys, Jamon Duson, Brandon Bauchman, Tri McCoy, Alvin Bell and Terrance Thompson really stepped upm" he said. "Now they are all on their own for the rest of the summer until football starts."
Monterey High School's boys basketball team went 3-5 in a camp at Negreet earlier this month.
"All five losses were close games," said Monterey coach Jeffery Odom. "I was proud of the boys. It was a good camp for us and we really benefitted from the competition." |
