Vitter reps view Ferriday water plant Representatives of Sen. David Vitter's office inspected the Ferriday water plant on Friday and met with Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin to discuss the town's water situation.
Ferriday has been on a boil advisory notice since May 11.
Quint Carriere, Central Louisiana Regional Representative for Vitter, was joined by attorney Stacy C. Auzenne, who represented the Town of Ferriday during the town's previous lawsuit concerning Ferriday water.
"I thought his visit was absolutely wonderful and I appreciate it very much," McGlothin said. "We gave him a lot of information on the plant to take back with him. They are going to try and help us get some grant money."
Carriere said he joined Vitter's team about five weeks ago.
"One thing I wanted to immediately put on the plate was the water system here," Carriere said. "I'm surprised that it is this far gone. What I don't understand is how it has been allowed to go this far. I'm going to have to take more looks to put in place for my reports. As far as help, it's going to be up to what is out there re-opening this plant. It is basically not efficient. I've talked with the mayor and know he has some options."
McGlothin met with Concordia Water Works officials last week to discuss going on line with the company or buying water from Concordia Water.
No agreement was reached and McGlothin said he does not know yet how much it would cost the town to use Concordia Water Works, if a plan was approved. |
