Story Archives: Gilley injured in fall

Gilley injured in fall
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said it is a miracle country music legend Mickey Gilley was not more seriously injured after a fall in his Branson, Mo., condo on July 5.

"Mickey was helping a neighbor in his condo move a couch when he fell down some stairs," Copeland said of his cousin. "He injured a vertebra in his back, but he was fortunate because if it would have been a little higher up he could have been paralyzed. We just thank the good Lord he is doing better.

The 73-year-old Gilley underwent surgery on July 7.

Gilley has since been flown to Houston, Texas, for further treatment.
