Ashmore seeking 12th title Mitch Ashmore will be seeking his 12th Panola Woods Men's Championship on August 8-9 at Panola Woods Country Club.
Panola Golf Pro Fuzzy DeLaune said a week of rain has been good for the course.
"We always need rain," DeLaune said. "But it does kind of need to quit now. Of course we're not going to fuss about it at this time of year. But the course is in good shape."
DeLaune had to deal with the rain last year in the men's championship as Tropical Storm Fay forced Sunday's play to be cancelled.
Last year Ashmore finished with an even par 72, one stroke ahead of Pat Hinson, who shot a 73 to win the Senior Championship.
Richard Criswell, who has won four men's championships at Panola, finished third at 75.
Cliff McGlothin, Jeremy Woods and Mike Zimmerman all finished at 79. Clyde Savoy won the Super Senior Championship with an 80.
The Men's Championship follows the Budweiser 4-Ball Tournament held earlier this month in which Jordan Farmer of Natchez and Lloyd Trisler scorched the nine hole course Saturday and Sunday, winning the 4-Ball event with a 64 on Saturday and 64 on Sunday to finish with a 16-under 128. |
