LRWA, town crew searching for water leak

Officials with Louisiana Rural Water Association and employees with the Town of Ferriday have been inspecting water lines this week to determine why the town is losing water.

"The other day the water level fell 22 feet" in the water tank, said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. "We lost 180,000 gallons two days and 220,000 gallons on another day. We know the plant is not leaking because we have checked there."

He said 19 leaks were found on old lines but crews "are checking out other sources because the level will drop and then come back up. Someone may have inadvertently tapped into our water line. We have to find out what is going on."

Louisiana Rural Water Association Entergy Technician John Swope and LPRA Water Circuit Rider Mike Gonzales were in Ferriday Tuesday checking water lines.

"We're doing everything possible to try and find the problem," Swope said. "And the town is turning over every stone possible. The town is already under a water boil advisory, so why wouldn't they do everything they can to fix the problem? They have been working hard for a solution and we're here to help."
