Hoffpauir, Bowden continue to shine Memphis' first-rate performance Monday night was good enough to land the Redbirds in first-place, with a 5-2 win over Omaha moving the squad into a half game lead over Nashville in the PCL's American North division.
The victory was Memphis' fifth straight and the seventh of their last 10 games.
"It comes at a good time," said second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir of Vidalia. "We're playing well, so hopefully we can keep it up.
"We are all coming around together at the right time. Everyone is swinging the bats well and the pitching has been outstanding. When that happens, it is cause for some fun."
Brian Barden took charge and got the 'Birds bats going in the third with a two-out double to left that drove in Jarrett Hoffpauir and Mark Hamilton to put Memphis up 2-1.
Hoffpauir, who is hitting .300, was responsible for the Redbirds final foray onto the scoreboard after answering Omaha's one-run rally in the top of the inning with a solo home run in the seventh. It was his 13th of the season for the Redbirds.
The homer gave Memphis their fifth run of the evening and extended the Hoffpauir's hit streak to 11 games.
Meanwhile, Barry Bowden of Vidalia continues to lead the Burlington Bees in saves with seven. Bowden is 3-2 for the Kansas City Royals high A team. He had 54 strikeouts and 22 walks on the season. |
