Brewer signs wtih Belhaven

Jordan Brewer played almost every position possible at Holmes Community College during his two-year stay at the Coahoma, Ms., school.

That experience may have been a key in the former Vidalia Viking signing with Belhaven College in Jackson last month.

"I think it's always good to be able to play a number of positions because he gives you more experience," said Brewer, who played everywhere but first base and pitcher at Holmes. "They need a third baseman at Belhaven, so I am certainly excited about getting a chance to play there."

Brewer follows former Vikings Bryan and Josh Bennett, who also played at Belhaven.

Brewer compiled a .269 batting average last season while playing mostly catcher after the Holmes catcher was injured.

"We are excited to have Jordan on our club. He is a good athlete that can play a lot of different positions," said Belhaven coach Hill Denson. "He really knows the game and could help us at a lot of different spots on the field. We are going to work him at third base a little this fall and go from there. Hopefully he will contribute somewhere, he is a good player."

Belhaven College is a member of the NAIA, Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, and Mid-South Conferences.

"I know it's going to be different, but I'm ready and know I can contribute," Brewer said.

Brewer was named to the 2007 Class 2A All-State Baseball Team his senior year at Vidalia.

He led the Vikings in his final season with a .403 batting average with two home runs. Brewer played shortstop for most of his high school career.

Vidalia fell to St. Charles Catholic in extra innings in the second round of the playoffs that season.
