The Concordia Parish School Board took under advisement two bids for foundation repair at two Ferriday schools and adopted tax millages for 2009 at the same rate as the year before.

That action came during the board's regular meeting Thursday night.

Base bids on the foundation work included Wilmar Construction of Vidalia at $569,588 and R.A. Edgin Construction of Natchez at $617,000.

The bids were taken under advisement.

Busness Manager Tom O'Neal said the foundations are cracking and sinking at the Ferriday Junior High Annex and one wing at Ferriday Upper.

The board also agreed to keep tax millages for 2009 the same as last year, including constitution, 2.84 mills; construction, 12 mills; and general operation, 23.08 mills.

These taxes presently generate, said O'Neal, the following: constitution, $334,990; construction, $1,415,451; and constitution, $2,722.384.

In other business, the board:

Approved the payment of invoices for the month of July totaling $4,218,547.

Approved extermination services from Bug Blasters totaling $2,750.

Named Concordia Bank and Delta Bank as fiscal agents and depository banks for fiscal years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

In personnel matters, the board approved the following:

Resignations:

Gloria Perkins, school food service technician, effective July 31, 2009.

Donnell Newsome, teacher, Ferriday Jr. High, effective May 21, 2009.

Leave:

Teneeshia Barber, teacher, Ferriday Jr. Highs, return from sabbatical, effective August 6, 2009.

Michelle Zimmerman, teacher, Vidalia Jr. High, return from maternity leave, effective August 6, 2009.

Diane Wiley, teacher, Ferriday Lower, return from extended medical leave, effective August 6, 2009.

Janice Rogers, teacher, Ferriday Lower, extended medical leave effective August 6, 2009.

Tara Dale, teacher Ferriday Lower, effective upon exhaustion of accumulated sick leave.

Sonya Brown, teacher, Concordia Education Center, military leave, September 18, 2009.

Retirements:

Emma Anderson, bus aide, disability retirement, effective August 5, 2009.

Deirdra W. Arrington, 12 month custodian, media center, effective September 30, 2009.

Lillie Birdon, teacher, Ferriday Jr. High, effective August 6, 2009, for the 2009-2010 school year.

James Harper, electrician, central office maintenance, effective August 13, 2009.
