Upgrades to the Concordia Parish Airport continued in 2008 with more than $500,000 invested, according to a just released financial statement compiled by CPA Silas Simmons in Natchez.

As of Dec. 31, 2008, the report notes that the Concordia Parish Airport Authority has $2,052,253 invested in capital assets.

The report also says that the $563,044 invested in airport work last year included $473,109 for runway lighting; $1,647, pilot lounge furniture; $2,600, used tractor; $37,802, generator; and $47,886, fuel pump systems.

General fund expenses for the past year totaled $100,000 and included $23,925 for airport services, $75,444 in depreciation and $1,201 in interest on long-term debt.

Revenue included $15,080 for services, $26,602 in state and local operating grants and contributions, and $559,270 in federal and state capital grants and contributions.

The report also says that the beginning cash balance Jan. 1, 2008, for the airport was $10,171 and the ending cash balance was $6,071 on Dec. 31, 2008.

Carl Sayers of the Concordia Parish Airport Authority said Tuesday that improvements are continuing this year with the recent completion of general maintenance work on the airport runway. This work was financed by grants totaling $166,439 from the Federal Aviation Administration, $8,500 from State Department of Transportation Aviation Division and $1,170 from the State Facility Planning Division.

Also this fiscal year, Sayers said the airport authority is seeking Louisiana Capital Outlay and federal stimulus grants to upgrade the main hanger with new lighting and electrical connections. The authority also plans to install a "modern electrically operated bi-fold door system" and construct a new 10-bay T-hanger "for greater aircraft storage capability and provide positive economic impact."

The airport authority is made up of five volunteer board members and their work, the report notes, has "resulted in continued improvements and stabilization in the financial condition" of the airport's operation. The airport has no employees and operates under the umbrella of the Police Jury.
