Tensas hopes to get back to title game

Tensas Academy came up just short of a championship its first year in 8-man football, falling to Calvary Christian, 64-54

"We would certainly like to try for it again," said Tensas coach Joe Coats.

Tensas beat Calvary Christian during the regular season last year.

Coats will be counting on a few seniors to do just that, starting with quarterback Jon-Truman James (5-11, 180).

Senior Kellon Lee (6-0, 150) will be joined in the backfield by sophomore Ryan Neuroth.

Senior Michael Arceneaux (5-11, 165) mans the offensive line.

Senior Austin Emfinger (6-0, 215) will be at tight end, while sophomore David Leake (5-10, 150) is at wide receiver.

Sophomore Dylan Hopkins (5-8, 180) is at linebacker, while sophomore defensive end Josh Sikes (5-11, 185) and junior defensive lineman Walker McDonald (6-1, 260) anchor the defensive line.

Tensas welcomes Franklin Academy to its district and to 8-man football. The Winnsboro school dropped down this year. Doyle Hassell is serving his first year as Cougar head coach.

"It's a lot like 11-man football," Coats said of the fast-growing 8-man league. "The team in the best condition that does the best job of blocking and tackling usually wins."
