Community event for youth slated Saturday
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The grounds of the old seventh grade in Ferriday and the Ferriday Recreation Gym, across the street from city hall, will come alive again with the sounds of school children Saturday for the Community Outreach & Back to School Extravaganza.

The picnic is being sponsored by the Doty Road Church of God, Ferriday Chamber of Commerce and REAL Ministries, Inc.

Rev. Simeon Green III of Doty Road Church of God came up with the idea for the picnic after he saw school children had nothing to do following graduation in May.

"God gave me a vision to reach out to the community and that vision caught on with the Mayor (Glen McGlothin), Chamber of Commerce President Liz Brooking and Ashley Powell with the AgCenter," Green said. "It's just unbelievable how everything has come together."

"Reach out...Make a friend" is the theme for the family event scheduled for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
