Cathedral hosts Loyd Star

Cathdral head coach Craig Beesley knew he was facing a quality opponent in the Green Wave's season opener at home Friday as Loyd Star comes to visit.

His players needed no convincing after hearing Class 2A Loyd Star upset Franklin County 12-0 in its opener last week. Franklin County was the No. 2 team in Class 3A.

Beesley witnessed the upset first-hand.

"By the time I got home the phone was ringing the the kids knew all about it," Beesley said. "They are excited about getting the chance to play one of the better teams in Class 2A."

Beesley said the upset was no fluke.

"Loyd Star is definitely one of the better teams we will play this season," he said. "They are very athletic, have three good running backs running behind a big, physical line."

The Class A Green Wave have changed from a spread offense to more of a veer offense.

"We're going to try and stick with our game plan," Beesley said. "We may have to make a few adjustments."

Cathedral played one quarter in the Natchez High Jamboree, falling to Point Coupee.

"Our kids are ready to hit somebody else," Beesley said. "We're excited about getting the season started."
