Enough with the polls already
Thank goodness the college football season is almost here.
Enough of these preseason polls asking which team has the prettiest socks or what freshman will start for Whatsamatter U.I guess the one poll that really gets me is what team ranks at the top of cupcake schedules?
Who is doing this poll ... Kreskin?
Who knows who will be good and who will be bad now?OK, at the end of the season you can go ahead and rank the teams as far as schedules go.
Just look at last year. Anybody with LSU on their schedule would be considered having one of the toughest oponents in the nation on their list.
At tne end of the year, it would have been considered a tough opponent (although Florida and Georgia may disagree heartily with that).
The Sporting New rates Ole Miss as having the worst non-conference schedule among BCS conference football teams.
Ole Miss plays at Memphis, hosts Southeastern Louisiana, welcomes Alabama-Birmingham and hosts Northern Arizona.
The Rebels actually have it pretty good on their conference schedule, not having to play Florida or Georgia and getting Alabama, Arkanas, Tennessee and LSU at home.
But, hey, I don't think anyone in the SEC needs to be in anybody's top 10 as far as scheduling is concerned.
Penn State is second with Akron, Syracuse, Temple and Eastern Illinois.
Rutgers has Howard, Florida International, at Maryland, Texas Soiuthern and Army.
Kansas State hosts Massachusetts, goes to Louisiana-Lafayette, visits UCLA and weloomes Tennessess Tech.
Indana has Eastern Kentucky, Western Michigan, Akron (those poor guys must have a heckuva schedule) and is at Virginia.
The bottom five has Duke, Kansas, Arizona State, Arkansas and Kentucky.Kentucky is at Miami (Ohio) before hosting Louisville, Louisiana-Monroe (the UL teams are not getting a lot of love) and Eastern Kentucky.
A lot of people feel LSU has an easy schedule with Washington, La.-Lafayette, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.
But what happens if Steve Sarkisian leads the Huskies wins over Notre Dame and Southern Cal?
What happens if Derek Dooley has Louisiana Tech upsetting Auburn and winning the WAC?
I don't think anyone will go back and change their ratings.
The Atlantic Coast Conference plays 29 percent of its games against I-AA teams, while the Big East plays 25 percent of its games against I-AA teams and the SEC is at 23 percent.
I still refuse to call that division its other name.
So who has the easiest schedule?
