Vidalia hosts Block Block High may be the favorite over host Vidalia Friday night, but Bear coach Benny Vault is well aware of another set of numbers - the fact Block has only beaten Vidalia once since 1985.
"Vidalia has the best won-loss record," Vault said. "But we want to show that we are the dominant team in the Miss-Lou."
Last year's contest scheduled for Block was cancelled after Hurricane Gustav dumped 19 inches of rain on Jonesville.
"Some of my Vidalia friends said we were scared to play so I ordered up a hurricane in order not to play," Vault said. "Our kids are excited. Vidalia is always well-coached and has some outstanding athletes. We have to play hard and prove to people we can compete."
Vidalia High head coach Dee Faircloth said this year's Block team is one of the best in years.
"They are big up front and they have a lot of speed," Fairlcloth said.
The veteran coach is also having to deal illness.
"We have several kids out sick right now so we'll just have to see how that affects us," he said.
Faircloth said his team cannot afford to turn the ball over.
"We're going to have to have a mistake-free game," he said.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Dee Faircloth Viking Stadium. |
