Tensas improves to 2-1

Tensas Academy rebounded from a loss to Calvary Christian as the Chiefs defeated Mt. Salus 36-12.

Tensas, 2-1, led 36-6 at halftime.

"The week before Mt. Salus threw the ball 35 times with four wide receivers, but they came at us with their 315-pound fullback and 200-pound running back and kept going off tackle to control the clock," said Tensas coach Joe Coats. "They moved the ball, but we kept them out of the end zone. They were huge, but not very well conditioned."

Calvary Christian quarterback Kyle Koch threw for 553 yards and 10 touchdowns in a 92-60 win over Tensas in Meridian on August 30.

The two teams met in the 8-man football championship game last season.

Tensas plays at Rebul Friday.

"They are about the same size we are and they are well-conditioned and well-coached," Coats said. "Their No. 7 has great speed. We are going to have to do a good job of trying to contain him.:"
