Trinity wins district opener Trinity Episcopal's Big Red Machine plowed over Briarfield 40-19 in its MAIS District 6-A opener Friday in Natchez.
"We were able to get up quick on them, but they kept coming," said Trinity coach David King. "I was proud of our guys, they played hard for four quarters and gave a complete effort."
Trinity scored first as Givonni Dent passed 31to Brandon Daggs.
R.J. Fleming then teamed up with Kent King on a 57-yard touchdown, and Fleming scored on a 63-yard run for a 20-0 first quarter lead. Dent scored on a 1-yard run late in the first half to give the Saints a 27-0 halftime lead.
Fleming had seven carries for 169 yards two touchdowns while Dent had seven carries for 89 yards and one touchdown to lead Trinity's ground game.
King had two catches for 119 yards.
Trinity hosts Alpha Christian Friday.
"They are the high school version of Mississippi Valley," King said. "They line up four wide receivers and it's kind of like playing X-Box. They have some good athletes and very unusual plays and formations. It's going to be wide open. It should be a fun game to watch." |
