Huntington falls to Centreville Huntington School did something most opponents have trouble doing at two-time defending Class 2A state champion Centreville Academy - score first.
But it was only a matter of time before the larger Tiger team took control on its way to a 56-28 win.
"We played pretty good in the first half, but we couldn't stop them in the second half," said Huntington coach Chad Harkins. "They kind of wore us out. But we have got to find a way to start slowing people down."
Huntington shocked the Tiger crowd early as Eric Bowens broke loose on a 46-yard touchdown run to give the Hounds the early lead.
Bowens finished the game with 86 yards on 18 carries.
Centreville answered with three straight scores behind senior running back Zach Sinclair, who rushed for 293 yards.
Beau Field gave Centreville a 21-9 lead with a scoring run just before the end of the first quarter.
Huntington scored twice in the second period with De'Vonte Wallace scoring both touchdowns as the Hounds trailed 35-21 at intermission.
The second half was all Centreville, as the Tigers got two more touchdown runs from Sinclair as well as a touchdown run from Hurst.
Huntington's only score in the second half came on a Jess Dossett 3-yard run late in the third quarter. |
