Story Archives: Huntington visits Briarfield

Huntington visits Briarfield
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Huntington School head football coach Chad Harkins had to dismiss four players from his team for disciplinary reasons, but he expects a solid effort when the Hounds travel to Lake Providence Friday for a key MAIS District 6A matchup.

After falling to Tallulah two weeks ago, the Hounds cannot afford another district loss.

"Right now we're concentrating on improving and getting better," Harkins said. "We've had a good week of practice. It didn't work out with the other kids, but the ones we have now want to be here and we have a lot more team unity. We've only got a handful of underclassmen, so we're having to rely on a number of freshmen. But they are all banding together and they are all going to play hard."

Briarfield's only loss this season came to Trinity.

"They have a scrappy team as always," Harkins said. "They beat a good Bayou team. It's going to be a big challenge for us."

Huntington is 1-4 on the season.

"We're going back to the ways we used to do things," Harkins said. "We're going to work hard and be mentally ready to play."
