Huntington falls to Riverdale Huntington's problems near the red zone continued to haunt the Hounds as the Ferriday team fell to Briarfield, 28-6 Friday in Lake Providence in a game that ended Huntington's playoff hopes.
Huntington moved the ball inside the Briarfield 30-yard line four times without coming away with points.
"We moved the ball, we just couldn't push it in," said Huntington coach Chad Harkins. "Their kids picked up their intensity when we got on their end of the field and we would stay at the same level."
Huntington, 1-5 overall and 0-2 in MAIS District 6-A, scored the first touchdown of the game as Shaq Witherspoon raced 56 yards to paydirt in the first quarter.
Briarfield scored on its next possession and went into the lockerroom with an 8-6 advantage.
Briarfield outscored Huntington 20-0 in the second half.
"They just played harder in the second half," Harkins said. "That's part of growing up. We're playing with a lot of young kids. We just have to maintain our intensity."
Tallulah and Trinity are unbeaten in the district.
Tallulah plays at Trinity on Oct. 23 and hosts Briarfield the following week.
Huntington ends its season with a home game against Trinity on Oct. 30. |
