Cathedral fall to Mount Olive Cathedral fell to 0-2 in MHSAA Region 4-1A as the Green Wave fell to Mount Olive 20-6 at D'Evereaux Stadium Friday. The Green Wave had penalties offset one touchdown and a play that ended inside the Pirates' 5-yard line.
"It's little things like that which has plauged us all year, but I am proud of the effort our guys put out," said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. "That was the most physical game we've had all year, but our guys hung in there and gave their all."
Cathedral's offensive struggles continued as the Green Wave had 59 yards offense.
Mount Olive jumped out to a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs by Danzell Keller and Rueben Ducksworth.
Cathedral's only score came on the defensive end as Daniel Huffines intercepted a pass and returned it 18 yards for the score with 2:12 left in the first half.
Cathedral visits West Lincoln Friday. The Bears are coached by former South Natchez/Natchez High head football coach Chris Calcote.
"Coach Calcote has done a good job over there the two years he has been there," Beesley said. "They have some big linemen and they will be running it right at us. We need something positive to happen early. These kids have been playing hard and they deserve something good to happen." |
