Lady Wolves seek return to playoffs
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Monterey Lady Wolf coach Cary Shively hopes to continue the progression of his girls basketball team going into a new district.

Monterey lost out in a tiebreaker game two seasons ago to just miss a playoff spot. Monterey got into the playoffs as the No. 31 seed last year after finishing second in District 3B where the Lady Wolves lost to No. 2 Hathaway in the first round.

"We want to use that experience to get back there and do better," Shively said. "That was a good experience and the girls left there feeling they could get back into the playoffs."

Seniors on the team are Brooke Baker and Ariel Hector. Juniors are Kristen Lipsey, Kendall Lipsey and Rachel Pecanty. Sophomores are Ellen Bairnsfather and Rie Mitchell. Freshmen are Jessica McNeil, Kaley Baker, Regan Tiffee, Molly Simpson and Christen Reaane

The girls are working hard and I have really been enjoying our practices," Shively said. "The older girls know what to expect and are showing great leadership, while the younger girls are enthusiastic and working hard."

Monterey is in a new district with Rapides, Glenmora, Avoyelles Charter and Harrisonburg.

"We feel like we'll be competitive," Shively said. "We just need to stay away from injuries and play well each game out."
