Richard era begins for Monterey hoops With the loss of only one senior, Monterey first-year boys basketball coach Eric Richard is counting on experience to get the Wolves into the playoffs.
Richard, the Monterey baseball coach, replaces Jeffery Odom, who took a job at Jena High School before the school year began.
"It's still a work in progress, but the kids are really working hard," Richard said. "I'm seeing a lot of improvement."
Seniors are Ross Lipsey, Ethan Cannon, Jorge Gonzalez, Andrew Harp and Cade Crum.
Juniors are 6-foot-5 center Josh Chapman, Jacob Evans, Hunter Trisler, Nick Blake and Trey Stone.
Brett Wright is the lone sophomore on the Monterey team.
Freshmen are Drew Lipsey, Clay Burley, Elliott Britt, Cole Fancher and Josh Usie.
Monterey will be competing in a new district that includes Rapides and Glenmora.
"Rapides has been state champ or runner-up the past three or four years," Richard said. "Glenmora has a great tradition. But we feel like we can compete with most teams in our district. We're looking forward to it. It will mean more games and more exposure for our kids. We just have to step up." |
