Ferriday visits Jonesboro-Hodge
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Jonesboro-Hodge won a dogfight in its District 2-2A opener Friday and Tiger head coach Joey Pender expects another one this Friday as J-H welcomes Ferriday.

"Ferriday is loaded," Pender said. (Bobby) Madison is an animal, No. 9 (Davonta Scott) is an athlete and their quarterback (Rodney Lawson) has a good arm. They are huge up front and playing real good football."

Jonesboro-Hodge defeated Lake Providence 11-8 as Jordan Palmer kicked a 20-yard field goal late in the game.

Lake Providence ran the opening kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown against the Tigers before J-H tied the game in the third quarter.

"The conditions were terrible," Pender said. "We got down to the 3-yard line late in the game and stalled there, so we decided to go for the field goal. Jordan has made about five field goals this year. He has a strong leg."

Ferriday head coach Freddie Harrison said he knows the Trojans will have their hands full at J-H.

"We're taking on a good team in a hostile environment," he said. "Coach Pender has won state championships at Winnfield and does a great job. It's going to be a real test for us."
