Story Archives: White, Hounds learning on the go

White, Hounds learning on the go
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Huntington School first-year basketball coach Edwin White is seeing progress with the Lady Hounds, while he has to wait until football season is over before working earnestly with the Huntington boys team.

White is playing the numbers game with the Lady Hounds as Abi Brown and Kristen Havard are the lone seniors, while there are no juniors on the team.

Sophomores are Allie Boothe, Abbye Ashmore, Natalie Tarver and Brookelin May.

"It's looking pretty good," White said. "The girls are learning a new concept. We've had a month of practices. They are adjustting to the transition. It's different because they've been doing a lot of free-lancing. We're teaching them to be more structured. This team is going to get better as we go along.

White has the tough task of replacing seven seniors on the boys team.

Returning seniors are Jess Dossett and Kevin Brown.

"We're going to mix and match a lot and play up-tempo," White said. 'We'll do a lot of half court and full court pressing. I'm still learning the personnel, but we'll learn on the go."
