Library slates 'Strike Up The Band' Oct. 22 The Concordia Parish Library will present "Strike Up The Band" at 7 p.m., October 22, at Concordia Bank in Vidalia.
The program features elements of jazz, swing and musical comedy in the form of solos, duets, trios and piano pieces and a programmed collection of standard songs that had been arranged for a recording project between Frank Sinatra and current pop artists. The music will take the audiences back in time to when this era of ragtime, swing and jazz was at its height!
"Strike Up The Band" features talented artists such as Corey Trahan, Tynan Davis and Cathy Venable with Swing & Big Band hits, patriotic tunes, and nostalgic selections such as "I've Got Rhythm," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Blue Moon," and "God Bless America."
Corey Trahan, a returning favorite, recently debuted with Ash Law Opera Festival as Mordred in "Camelot" and Don Curzio in "Le Nozze di Figaro" and returned to Natchez Opera Festival as Matt in "The Fantastiks." Trahan was tenor soloist in Handel's "Messiah" and performed Bach's "Magnificat" and Bach's "Cantana 61" in New York City.
Tynan Davis is a Mezzo Soprano who in May 2008 marked her main stage debut with the Natchez Festival of Music singing Dorabella in "Cosi Fan Tutte" and Ado Annie in "Oklahoma." Davis' 2009 season includes debuts with "Fauxharmonic" and Rapides Symphony Orchestras and recitals in New York and Louisiana with pianist Arielle Levioff.
Cathy Venable has served as a pianist for the Broadway show "Curtains," "The Light in the Piazza," "Wonderful Town, Beauty and the Beast," "The Apple Tree," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Les Miserables," the "Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular," and "Casino Paradise" and "My Fair Lady" at Lincoln Center.
The evening's event is co-sponsored by Ferriday Community Service Club, Concordia Bank & Trust Co., Louisiana Division of the Arts, RUPAR, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, and The Arts Council of Central Louisiana. |
