Hounds get win at UCA There was no playoff bid on the line, but there was a lot of pride involved in Huntington's 38-12 win over Union Christian Friday.
The Hounds, 2-7, snapped a six-game losing streak with the win at Farmerville.
"A win is a win," said Huntington coach Chad Harkins. "I'm happy for our seniors."
UCA finished the 2008 regular season with a perfect Arkansas Louisiana Christian Athletic League record of 5-0, and 5-1 overall, with the only loss this season coming at Tensas Academy in St. Joseph.
The Lions are in their second year to have a varsity football team.
"I didn't think we would ever find the place," Harkins said. "It was way back up in the woods from the school. But it all worked out. They actually have a nice football field."
Huntington junior Kevin Brown and freshman Shaq Witherspoon certainly enjoyed playing on it.
The Hound duo combined for 277 yards and four touchdowns.
Brown had 168 yards with three touchdowns. Witherspoon finished with 109 yards and one touchdown.
Senior quarterback Jess Dossett also scored for the Hounds.
Blaine Fletcher added an interception which was returned to the UCA 10-yard line to set up a score.
The Hounds finish their season with home games against Wilkinson County Christian Academy and Trinity Episcopal.
"WCCA has Tip McKenzie and Todd Gonda, who have more speed than any of our guys," Harkins said. "It's going to be a challenge containing them. We have to have some success on offense." |
