Phone service outage reported in Catahoula Phone customers in the Sicily Island dialing area (389) and some Harrisonburg customers (744) were out of service Thursday afternoon after a fiber optic cable crossing the Ouachita River at Harrisonburg was snagged by a barge.
A spokesman for AT&T, Sue Sperry, said the "the river is high and something onboard the barge snagged the line and snapped it."
Sperry said the accident occurred at about 2 p.m. Thursday. She said a short time later AT&T service workers were on site. They spliced the cable and restored service.
"Service was restored to all areas by 9:25 p.m. Thursday," she said. "We are sorry for the inconvenience to our customers, but it was an accident and due to the high water stage the repair was challenging." |
