Story Archives: Block continues winning ways

Block continues winning ways
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Block Bears continued their quest for a District 3-1A title with an 18-0 win over LaSalle, the first-ever win for Benny Vault Jr., as a coach over the Tigers.

The district contest was played in a steady rain.

"My rubber boots got stuck in the mud a couple of times," Vault said. "I looked like Coach (Dee) Faircloth with the boots and shorts."

Cudarius Johnson put Block up 6-0 on a 23-yard run after a fumble recovery by Seville Collins.

Preston Davis scored on an 11-yard run to put the Bears up 12-0 before Johnson hit Ladarrius Collins with a nine yard touchdown pass for the final score of the game.

"We couldn't throw the ball because it was so slick," Vault said. "Our defense has played well the last five weeks, so I was confident they would not score on us."

The Bears improved to 4-5 overall and 4-0 in district 3-1A. Block hosts Tensas Thursday night on Senior night. A Bears' win gives them the outright 3-1A district title and the potential to host a first round playoff game.

"We just have to stay focused and hopefully not have any injuries in getting ready for the playoffs," Vault said.
