Story Archives: Cathedral upsets Dexter

Cathedral upsets Dexter
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Cathedral High survived the elements and a bigger Dexter team as the Green Wave defeated the Bulldogs 21-0 at D'Evereaux Stadium Friday.

"The kids came out with a lot of energy and emotion," said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. "We took advantage of their mistakes and took care of the football."

A win by Cathedral at Salem Friday will give Beesley his first taste of the playoffs as a coach. Beesley quarterbacked the Green Wave in the playoffs in the late 1980s.

Cathedral senior quarterback Dylan White completed 5-of-11 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Semmes White had two of those receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Cathedral moved into third place in Region 4-1A with the win.

"No one would have thought that four weeks ago," Beesley said.

The Green Wave can clinch a spot in the playoffs with either a win next week over Salem or a loss by St. Aloysius against Sebastopol.

Salem lost to Bogue Chitto 35-8 Monday night in game that was postponed from Friday.. The Wildcats have two wins on the season.

"Salem is the type of team that always plays us tough," Beesley said. "Salem and St. Al, you can throw the records out when we play them. We have to go in to the game in the right frame of mind."
