Block visits Southern Lab

Block High visits Southern Lab Friday in a first-round Class A playoff contest.

"We're just glad to be going somewhere," said Block coach Benny Vault, whose team went unbeaten in district after having to forfeit two games earlier because of an ineligible player. "The kids are excited, the coaches are excited and the town is excited. We just have to go out and perform."

Southern Lab is rated No. 11 in Class A, while Block is rated No. 22.

"They are big and have a couple of track guys in the backfield," Vault said. "They play power football and like to run it right at you. They have a middle linebacker on defense who is 6-4, 225 who runs well to the ball. We'll have our hands full. But I feel good about our chances if we come out and play ball."

Block finished unbeaten in district with a 50-18 win over Tensas Thursday.

Block led only 14-12 after the first period but pulled away over the next three quarters.

Preston Bowman rushed for 163 on just 10 carries with three touchdowns all in the first half.

Block had 445 yards of total offense to just 134 for Tensas. The Bears had 105 yards in penalties.

The Block-Southern Lab winner will face the winner of the West St. John-Vermillion Catholic contest.
