Hounds fall to Brookhaven teams

Huntington School opened its season against one of the top basketball programs in the state of Mississippi Tuesday.

Brookhaven's boys and girls showed they will be a force once again this season as the Brookhaven boys defeated Huntington 66-22, while the Lady Cougars ran past the Lady Hounds 65-17.

Brookhaven's girls scored the first 19 points of the game, pressing the Lady Hounds for the first five minutes of the contest, causing several turnovers.

The Lady Cougars led 28-5 at the end of the first period.

The Lady Cougars stretched their lead to 31 points at halftime and they outscored Huntington 17-0 in the third quarter. Kristen Havard led the Lady Hounds with nine points.Brookhaven's boys also used pressure to cause early turnovers on their way to a 29-1 first quarter lead.

Brookhaven led 39-5 at halftime.

Kevin Brown scored 11 points and Jess Dossett added five points to lead Huntington.

Huntington plays at Silliman Thursday before taking on Adams County Christian School in Natchez on Friday.

The Hound will compete in the Silliman Tournament November 16-21 before hosting the Huntington Doubleheader on Nov. 23-24.
