Monterey teams continue winning

Monterey High's boys and girls posted wins in the Grace Christian Tournament as the Lady Wolves edged Harrisonburg 47-45, while the Monterey boys tripped up Hosanna Christian 58-48.

In the girls contest, Harrisonburg led Monterey 33-20 at hafltime, but the Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the third period 8-3 and 19-9 in the final period.

Kendall Lipsey led Monterey (6-2) with 14 points. Taylor Sheppard scored a game-high 16 points for Harrisonburg.

Monterey's boys led Hosanna Christian 17-15 after one period and 32-25 at halftime.

The Blazers outscored the Wolves 12-8 in the third period before Monterey took control in the final period by outscoring Hosanna 18-11.

Josh Chapman led all scorers with 22 points, while Jacob Evans added 11.

Monterey's girls fell to Rapides 44-39 on Saturday in the tournament.

Rapides stormed out to an 18-9 lead and led 26-16 at halftime.

But the Lady Wolves battled back in the second half, outscoring the Lady Mustangs15-9 in the third period and 11-9 in the final quarter.

Kendall Lipsey led Monterey with 12 points, while Kristen Lipsey added eight.

Monerey's boys fell to Rapides 62-22.

Brett Wright netted five for the Wolves.

The Lady Wolves used strong second half play to defeat LaSalle 49-30 in Monterey Tuesday to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Monterey led 9-8 after one period of play and 20-16 at halftime.

But the Lady Wolves stormed out of the locker room at halftime, outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-8 in the third period and 10-6 in the final quarter.

Ellen Bairnsfather led the Lady Wolves with 14 points.

Brooke Baker added 12 points and Ariel Hector netted 10.

Jessica Talley led LaSalle with eight points and Hannah Ruddel chipped in with seven points.

Monterey's boys defeated LaSalle 47-32.

The Wolves trailed 12-8 after one period of play, but outscored the Tigers 11-3 in the second period.

Monterey outscored LaSalle 28-17 in the second half.

Josh Chapman led the Wolves with 12 points, followed by Ross Lipsey with 10 points and Jacob Evans with nine points.

Monterey will compete in the LaSalle Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
