CPSO seeks bikes for holiday program Thanksgiving is next week, and soon families will be gathered around their Christmas trees. The Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office is still seeking used bikes to repair and place under trees for the less fortunate children of the parish.
Thus far, used bikes and tricycles are only trickling in to the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office for the annual holiday bike repair program for the area's needy children.
"Christmas is for children, and we really want to be able to fill all the requests for bikes," Sheriff Randy Maxwell said. "To do that, we're hoping that everyone in the Miss-Lou who has a used bike or tricycle in their yard or garage will bring it over the to courthouse for repair."
The used bikes may be dropped off at the rear of the Concordia Parish Courthouse, 4001 Carter St. Parish jail inmates will repair, repaint and generally overhaul each bike that's brought in, if at all possible. Those that are beyond repair will be used for parts.
Parents may fill out applications for the bikes at the CPSO receptionist's desk, Room 7 of the Courthouse, starting Nov. 30. For further information, contact the Sheriff's Office, 336-5231, 757-3162 or 386-2200.
Maxwell began the Christmas bike program the first year he was in office (1990) and approximately 300 bikes have been given away each year since that time.
Any individual, business or civic organization that would like to make a monetary donation to be used for parts or paint may send it to the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office, 4001 Carter St., Room 7, Vidalia, LA 71373.
For further information, contact the Sheriff's Office, 336-5231, 757-3162 or 386-2200. |
