One voice, one chamber for parish

The Ferriday and Vidalia chambers of commerce are to be commended for their recent decision to form a parishwide organization to be known as the Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce.

Every single person responding to a survey concerning this idea supported a single, parishwide chamber. This response, coupled with the chambers' own discussions as well as input from the Concordia Economic & Industrial Development Board (CEID), led to the decision.

The merger is scheduled for 2011 and the chambers will work throughout 2010 to form an organizational structure that is representative of the entire parish.

Chamber leaders stressed that this venture will build bridges and will be more representative of all of Concordia. Many survey responders added that organizational meetings next year should allow all members a chance to ask questions and comment on the new chamber's structure.

Chamber leaders also note that the most common concern expressed was that the parish organization concentrate on working for the entire parish and not just one area.

As Ferriday Chamber President Liz Brooking said: "We must all set aside our individual egos, rivalries and feelings of skepticism so that everyone in our parish can move forward and cultivate a prosperous, sustainable way-of-life."

Said Vidalia Chamber Director Jamie Burley: "We will have people disagree. However, I can't help but feel that they will see the positive outcome."

Added CEID Director Heather Malone: "We are too small of a community to divide our resources. We need to prove to the community that 'United we stand-Divided we fall."

We agree. This is pro-active and sound move on the part of the chambers makes sense -- one voice for Concordia.
