Police Jury considering insurance, new budget

The Concordia Parish Police Jury was scheduled to hold a special meeting Wednesday evening to discuss a hike in employee health insurance rates while continuing work on the 2010 budget, which will be adopted at the December 14 meeting.

"We've been notified that our health insurance for employees is going from $26,017.18 per month to $32,579.40," he said, a hike of almost $80,000 annually.

"This meeting will be to look at our options because we have to make a decision before Friday," said Ferrington.

He said the Jury's 2010 budget will likely be less than this year's $4.7 million budget.

"Last year were able to give all of our employees a three percent raise, but we won't be able to do that this year," said Ferrington. "Our budget will certainly be affected by this insurance rate hike."

But Ferrington said the 2010 budget "doesn't look as bad as we feared during the middle of this year. I think we'll have a good, strong budget but there will be some changes. We'll have to watch very closely to maintain our finances as we should."

Ferrington said juror Randy Temple, who is finance committee chairman, has been working with his committee and jury staff in putting together the new budget for the Jury to consider.
