Ferriday splits pair with Block

Ferriday split a pair of games with Block High Tuesday in Ferriday as the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Bears 63-44, while Ferriday's boys fell to the Bears, 65-51.

Ferriday's girls led 15-14 after one period, but picked up the defensive intensity in the second quarter, scoring off turnovers to extend its lead to 38-25 at halftime.

"We committed a lot of turnovers, but Block was unable to capitalize on ours," said Ferriday coach Lisa Abron. "The girls did do a good job on the defensive end."

Chante Poole led the Lady Trojans with 25 points. Jasmine Butler and T'Keyah Fletcher added 13 points each.

Tyra Jefferson led the Lady Bears with 16 points and Desiree Savage scored 15 points.

Ted Gullage led Ferriday with 17. Markelle Bell added nine.

Ferriday will host Vidalia Friday. The Trojans tournament scheduled for this week was cancelled .

because of teams pulling out of the tournament.
