Block lands two on state first team

Block High School's Theo Carroll and Shelby Zeagler were named to the Class 1A All-State team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Carroll is a 6-foot-5, 323-pound senior who helped lead the Bears to the Class 1A quarterfinals.

Zeagler, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound senior, had 81 tackles and 19 sacks for the Bears.

Named as honorable mentions from Block were quarterback Curdarius Johnson and lineman Trey Vault

Haynesville head football coach David Franklin was named Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Tornadoes to the state championship.

Franklin is the son of 11-time state champion Alton "Red" Franklin, who is a past Coach of the Year at Haynesville.

The Hurricanes came away with one of the two top individual honors as linebacker Seth Ancar were named Defensive Player of the Year.

Gueydan running back Davante Bourque was named Offensive Player of the Year by rushing for 1,779 yards and 30 touchdowns after taking over for injured 2008 All-Stater Darrin Gums.
